I've been a bit melancholy since my surgery. I'm really doing a lot of nothing and it's left me feeling purposeless and down. Time to turn that around.
In a very Katie-like fashion, I'm starting with music. Life never seems as bad if I've got some sweet tunes on the ipod or in the car. I can actually feel my soul lighten when my windows are down and my music up.
I have a lot of music, friends. Like, a lot. Some 3,000 songs on my itunes. But I'm always searching for the new (or new to me) and great. I need a Summer 09 mix to pick up my spirits!
Would you please, pretty please, tell me what music you're loving right now so that I may love it too? Upbeat and summery would be best, but I'll take anything.
And what am I loving right now?
The beat in this song gets me tapping my feet and doing interpretive dances.
This song is beautiful but makes my heart ache a little bit. (This is the music video version, so the actual song starts around the 1 minute marker)
This artist is not new to me but I absolutely
Love

Have you heard of Francesca Battistelli? Love her music!
I love Michael Buble! :)
After far as the book to TV thing goes - it's not EXACTLY the same. They create a few new storylines. But the show in it's own right is REALLY GOOD. I loved the first season.
You COULD just google "True Blood Season 1." That's how I watched last year - I just found a site that had the episodes for free and watched them. Kind of a pain in the neck because you can only watch, like, 72 minutes a day or something like that. But who sits at home ALL DAY watching?
Thanks for the videos!
I love the Killers :)
Well.. I already "told" you about Laura Marling & I haven't stopped listening to her all week! But another great artist that JUST popped on my pandora is "The Wheepies" go listen now if you're not familiar!
and thanks for the comment on my blog! of COURSE i don't mind!
XO
weepies..
whoops:)
Heyy Katie,
Songs! YAYYZ. Uhm, 'I Gotta Feeling' is good, and Jack Johnson is awesome for anything anytime. Shiny Toy Guns is uh-may-zing, and you have to listen to Raw Sugar by Metric.
=D
Eek, surgery's no fun. I've never had it before (not even a stitch!), but I hope you have a speedy recovery. Biking and swimming are definitely must-dos during the summer. Read a book, write a blog (or a story!), draw/paint, make a card for someone, design an outfit... uhm, I'm running out of ideas, haha. Just focus on getting better soon, 'kay? =)
As for college, I'm applying to 11 I think. But I'm doing a year of volunteer work first, then going to NUS for one year (finance, guh. It costs way too much to send three kids to American unis three years straight. *shudder*), and then probably do another year of volunteering. And then go to the States for Uni for 2 years. Only three years of Uni 'cause I did well enough on my IB exams, thank goodness.
Complicated eh?
Anyway, I'm applying to UPENN, Stanford, The New School, Duke, UBC, Purdue, Birmingham, NYU, Bryn Mawr, Cambridge, and Swarthmore. Yup. I'm gonna spend so long in front of the computer this summer writing apps =( Oh well.
Gosh, that's a long comment, haha. Talk later!
Cheers!
Robyn
oh music, I would basically die without it. Okay...Good Summer Music:
Nizlopi - JCB, Extraordinary, Glastonbury
I think Say Anything is just really funny (they have a song called "hangover song" and it cracks me up)
Motion City Soundtrack, they're not new but they are perfect for summer
Butch Walker = the bomb dot com. He's from Georgia so I don't know if you would have heard of him, he's not super big, but HE'S AWESOME (he's also a family friend). If you've ever heard of Marvelous 3, he was the front man before he went solo. His best songs (in my opinion) are:
Mixtape (if you know him, this would be why)
Bethamphetamine
Rich People Die Unhappy
When Canyons Ruled the City
The Weight of Her
Going Back/Going Home
Ships in a Bottle
Vessels
The 3 Kids in Brooklyn
Closer to the Truth and Further from the Sky
Atlanta
My Way
Suberbia
Diary of a San Fernando Sexx Star
If (Jeanie's Song)
Take Tomorrow
Don't Move
sorry, I know that's a lot, but you really should check him out
and while we're talking Home Grown Georgia bands
-family force 5
-corey smith
-cartel
hope this helps some!
I love all these wonderful recommendations. :)
Krysten: I'm feeling Francesca. Thanks!
Nancy: Michael Buble! *Swoons* Thanks for reminding me of this wonderful man. My sister & hubs danced to "Everything" at their wedding.
Lauren: They are incredible, aren't they? Brandon Flowers isn't too hard on the eyes either.
Bekah: Seriously, I'm hooked on Laura Marling now! Thanks for sharing the music (and commenting) love. Also, I have one "Weepies" song but now I am going to check out more. Making a channel for them on Pandora right....now.
Robyn: Goodness, what a college list! It sounds like you have a great plan for the next few years, though. And I know you'll eventually wind up at a top-notch American school. Also, thanks for the delightful list of things to do. I think I'll start with both the card and outfit creating!
Jenn: Ah, you caught me. The only Butch Walker song I have is "Mixtape"...but now I know the other wonderful offerings he has! I'm enjoying Nizlopi so far, and I'd never heard of them, so thanks for pointing them out.
Jaydey: I already mentioned this on one of your posts, but we have some songs in common (yay!) and I like the others you suggested.
Katie, I am sad because I have been following your twilight blog, but realized I wasn't following this one. I'm behind on posts.
Okay so as for music I have a few ideas. I can't think of any specific albums but I have songs that I love:
Devotchka - Queen of the Surface Streets
Maria Taylor - Song Within A Song
Lenka - The Show
The Maccabees - Toothpaste Kisses
Kate Nash - Mouthwash/Merry Happy
Coldplay (trendy, I know) Strawberry Swing
Bird and the Bee - Again and Again
okay that's all I can think of right now...I'll think of more later. Let me know what you think!
