5 Things about my First Day of Senior Year
1.) I am all of a sudden more confident and less self-conscious than ever before [here]. I went to a Professor's office hours, sat in the front row without wondering if I was being judged and generally didn't worry about what the other student's thought of me as I passed them on campus.
2.) A Professor thought I was a freshman and asked if I needed to know where a room was...and since I did, I happily smiled and said "Yes, please, I'm looking for room 108?" Who cares as long as I know I'm a senior.
3.) My Astronomy Professor "gets it" ("it" being that everyone in his class are seniors who suck at Science but need the credit). He pleasantly told us he has no attendance policy and that we're adults who can choose whether to come to class or not. While this declaration gave me a little thrill, I know I'm really a very straight-laced student. I will be at every class barring illness.
4.) I learned while working in my apartment kitchen that I am so completely my mother that I helplessly maintain the kitchen (and everything else) habits she had that I observed growing up even when it means I am endlessly teased by those who don't understand. I always wash the eggs (HELLO did you know the salmonella is on the outside?), I wash can lids because they're usually dirty-dirty, and I microwave the sponge to kill germs.
5.) I think I'm going to love having only two classes (Astronomy and Women in Music) and an internship at an incredible independent bookstore this semester. After two semesters of four English classes, I deserve a break.
And for nostalgia's sake I leave you with a picture of me on move-in day freshman year on the porch of our bookstore. That's the library in the background. Yes, that's where I study. Inspiring, no?

Katie, you are beautiful!
Oh college, isn't it a wonderful journey? When you begin it feels like you'll never see the end but then once you get to the end, it feels like it flew by.
I wish you the best last fall semester.
ps I microwave sponges (when we had one before cambridge) and I rinse can lids too! I should try the egg thing...
