As you know, recently I've been spending time with Abbi because she's kind of ok and stuff. I guess. Well, I've also been spending a lot of time with a certain gentleman they call the Doctor.
I've long had friends who were rabid Doctor Who fans, but I never felt the urge to watch myself. Sci-fi hasn't really been my thing. But this summer I had a rash of friends start watching it/talking about it all around the same time and for the first time, I felt intrigued. The promise of David Tennant didn't hurt.
It took me maybe two weeks to watch the first six episodes of series (to be British) one. I'm not saying that to brag--normally, I can watch a series of a good show in 24 hours. But the Doctor was hard for me. I was so not into it. But dear Abbi, and my other wonderful Whovians (see: Elyse, Lauren, Jess, Tina, Janie...) urged me on, promising better if I stuck it out.
Then I hit "Father's Day", and for the first time Doctor Who moved me to tears. And quotations. (You know I love something if I want to quote it.)
Me: "You two...street corner...2 in the morning. I've never had a life like that." I LOVE IT. DEAD.
Abbi: I'M SO HAPPY. I'M SO HAPPY. THIS IS WHY SEASON ONE IS SO IMPORTANT.
Then I met Captain Jack Harkness.
Me: Um who is this man and why is he so hot?
Abbi: CAPTAIN JACK HARKNESS. AND HE IS TOO WONDERFUL FOR WORDS.
Me: He is sooo dreamy.
Basically, to sum up, I finally got to this point:
Me: I just clapped my hands and said I LOVE THIS SHOW. I think I'm there.
Ever since I got past the rough start to series one, I've been watching like crazy. To help me out, Abbi and I had a marathon on Tuesday. The goal: To get to the Tenth Doctor. If you know anything about Doctor Who, you know why. (Because Tenth Doctor is superior and amazing in every way.)
Our marathon was perfection. We had Chinese food (after a ridiculous two hour wait! what?!?!), candy, cheez-its and Shirley Temples in fancy cocktail glasses. Most importantly, we had David Tennant.
{Awesome immitation of Tenth's face.}
I appreciate that series one built up a good foundation for the Doctor/Rose, but for me, series two makes their relationship perfection. Please don't ask me about "Doomsday"...I can't even go there.
[See:
Me: It's doomsday time for me. Abbi: Godspeed, my dear friend. Me: I just yelled NO so loudly my own ears hurt. Me: I DON'T KNOW WHETHER I'M SAD OR ANGRY. Abbi: BOTH.
Lauren: Have you cried yet?? AHHHH. Seriously,my heart. Me: Sobbing.]
Where was I? Oh yes, series one was good, but series two was wonderous to me. There is nothing better than Tenth Doctor and Rose. (I'm struggling through 3 right now...if you've watched, you know why. Ugh, Marth. Go away.)
I love my fellow Whovians. Someday I'd like to marathon it with all of you.

Hey Kate! I've been enjoying yours and Lauren's tweets back and forth about DW! I've been a fan a little over a year now, and I just love it to pieces. I think you will enjoy the next season with Donna...she's no Rose, but she's my favorite companion. Keep on Who-ing it up!
You've convinced me... I need to watch this show.
Ahhh I love it so so much. My favorite in series 1 was World War III and "I could save the world but lose you." But I agree with you - series 2 was so perfect. My heart hurts thinking about it.
I feel so sorry about Martha - she never had a chance. No one can replace Rose. I'm on series 4 and it is so freaking good. I don't know how it is possible to love the Doctor more with each episode. But I do.
Doctor Who puts me in extreme fangirling mode and I love when other people falls for it as well!
ILOVEIT! I actually watched a few with my cousin who was really into it a while back and thought to myself- this show is COOL. I actually saw the "Blink" episode and was completely freaked out, but unlike usual "scary" things, the Doctor just intrigued me! I'm starting from the beginning again! WHOOT.
If you can imagine an ear to ear grin, that is what my face felt like reading this post! <3
ps. Don't blink.
I AM DYING OVER HERE.
1. both of you are too beautiful for words. i am glad i wasn't there because i would feel bad about myself.
2. i want a shirley temple.
3. 10TH DOCTOR FTW!
4. abbi's impression is PERFECTION.
5. i am so glad you got sucked in!
Wait until you get to the series 4 finale. I sobbed. I bawled my eyes out.
Still series 4 is my favourite. Catherine Tate for the win!
Now I'm off to read through your archives :) Lovely blog
I LOVE THIS POST! Mostly because I'm glad you love Doctor Who (more specifically, the 10th Doctor) as much as I do.
You and Abbi sure know how to have a marathon. I so wish I lived closer! But I'm glad you have Abbi there to watch with you. It's always more fun that way. :)
I felt the same way about Martha. Her story turned out okay, but she is still my least favorite companion. By far. Can't wait for you to meet Donna!
Best post ever! I'm so glad to have you and Abbi both as friends so we can discuss the wonderful Doctor. Have faith in Martha. She ends up being pretty awesome in the end. But I will admit she's the least favorite of all the companions in the new series.
PS: Abbi's face + 10's face = perfection. That picture made me giggle so much.
Hmmm intriguing. I don't have any friends bugging me to watch it, but maybe I'll give it a shot. I have very few shows that I watch and am running out!
p.s. first visit here, off to browse - cheers!
Yay for another who fan!
Do you recall two Halloweens ago David and I dressed up as the tenth doctor and rose tyler?! I had to wear an awful wig.
