Bloggiversary

A little over a year ago I decided to start a blog. I wasn’t really sure why. Maybe it’s because I spent a lot of Friday nights bored and alone. Maybe it’s because I wanted a new hobby. Who knows. A year ago today I posted my first post.

I am lacking in the creativity department since finals are eating my brain, so the most I can come up with is to give my very first post a fresh take. So here we go, one year later…

Hi, I’m Katie/Kate!

When I'm having a bad day, my go to comfort food is....

One of my favorite foods is...
{Grilled cheese from Cafe Eclectic! What am I going to do without it when I move back home?}

I can't go more than a day or two without...

Lately, I'm addicted to...

I love baking...

...and wearing lipstick for fun...

...and reuniting with best friends.

{Friendship est. 2008 in Salzburg, Austria; Reunion 2010}

My current guilty pleasure...

I am so happy I decided to start this blog. I created it with no one in mind as an audience, but I am blessed to have met so many true and wonderful friends through it. I’m also pleased to have much of my family reading along. I may not blog the way others do, but I blog the way that works for me and I’m thrilled that some of you want to come along for the ride. Here’s to another year of posting absolutely whatever’s on my mind.

Brownies for Breakfast

Today I didn't get anything done that I needed to.

But, in the words of my best friend Tina, I didn't fail, I just didn't succeed. ;) Yes, she is a master at finessing the English language.

I slept in. I had a brownie for breakfast. I went to a late lunch at "On the Border" with bestie Tina and she drove so that I could have a Margarita (true friendship). She helped me work on interview question answers for a mock interview and we talked about a little of everything. We wandered through Book Star and were disgusted at their lack of a children's section. We rediscovered a childhood favorite of ours, Betsy-Tacy. Don't know it? You need to. I think B&T books may have been my Anne of Green Gables. Tonight, we went to an on-campus play to support our friend.

And now I am snacking and catching up with my friends Harry, Ron and Hermione in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."

No, I didn't get anything done that I needed to today.

But as bestie pointed out, "what does it say at the top of your white board, Kate?" {She may have been mocking, I'm not sure.}

It says: "Live the day that you won't regret tomorrow."

I don't regret a moment of today.

{Waste of} Time Machine

Yesterday while at a Café with my friend we got sidetracked from working and ended up looking at old pictures on both of our laptops.

I don’t expect that anyone will have much interest in all of these photos but I was feeling super nostalgic and decided I wanted to do a “remember when” High School post.

Some of these are blurry because they had to be scanned from real prints. I know, old school.

Remember when I got every Harry Potter book from 4 up at Midnight? And I always made dorky apparel to wear? You can't tell but my canvas bag has also been painted by moi in a Harry Potter theme, my hair ribbons are scarlet for Gryffindor, and my nails were painted alternately scarlet and gold.

Remember when I let my friend "highlight" my hair and it turned blondeish? I cried all night in the bathroom and then my sister picked me up first thing in the morning and took me to Walgreen's for hair dye. So then it was this light brown/reddish color for a while. Still not good but better than blonde.

Remember when I got to meet my internet best friend while visiting colleges in Michigan? And our best friendship was solidified because we got along just as well as we did via the phone/internet?

Remember when sister and I got to meet all the stars of the touring cast of Wicked in 2005 including the phenomenal Ms. Stephanie J. Block!?

Remember when my friends and I would dress up and go places for no particular reason? Like downtown to eat? Or...

...to the Melting Pot?

Remember when my life was theater? I went to thespian convention...

...and had lots of ridiculous inside jokes with these people...

Remember when my puppy and I looked like this several times daily because she was my sister and best friend? {R.I.P.}

Remember the last day of High School?

...and Senior awards? I picked this picture because we all have ridiculous looks on our faces, like "why is our theatre teacher being creepy while we pose with him?"
Remember when we ate ALL the time, like right after we graduated?

It's crazy to think I'm about to do this again:

...Only this time I have no idea what's coming next. Which is both exciting and terrifying.

Today

I ignored all of my research materials...

Put on my favorite lipstick

And ventured outside.

It was 80 degrees and pleasant in the shade of Oak Alley.

This was behind me:
This was beside me:

And Oak Alley was straight ahead.

This bird sat next to me for most of the hour I spent out there. We became friends.

And then, having gotten a good dose of Vitamin D, I returned inside to have a Glee marathon with some friends.

I love to bake from scratch, but we took the easy way out and did break & bake cookies to allow for maximum Glee watching time.

I insisted on wearing my apron anyway.

Today was beautiful and restful and busy and relaxing.
{Yes, it was busy and restful. Go figure.}
Tomorrow it is back to the books.

*Deep breath and GO*
