Hey, remember that time we spent the whole day exploring Kaputzinerberg and we kept trying to get a picture of us and the fortress? And then we walked all the way to Hellbrun, past the angry swan that tried to kill us, past the “Sound of Music” house and then we bought Gluhwein at the Christmas market and played Frisbee until dark?
Hey, remember that time we went to Mondsee when it snowed and got in that huge snowball fight and Seth pushed us down the hill?
{Seriously, guys, this is Crystal World:
Hey, remember all of our dinner parties? And how we endlessly mocked that weird Universitat poster that we kept seeing near our classrooms? And remember that night we tried to cook all of the food we all had left before leaving Salzburg and we ate everything, including an entire batch of raw cookie dough and we all thought we’d die?
Hey, remember that time we tried to go to the Chinese restaurant on the top floor of that old building near Linzergasse and no one else was there and it was dead silent and the lady pronounced rice as “fried lice”? Or the time that we went to O’Malley’s and met those hot Australian guys and I broke 3 glasses when I wasn’t even remotely tipsy? Or what about that day we had to bake our pumpkin pie in a sauce pan and then carry it across town and onto a bus and into the countryside for our sleepover at Katherine’s and how it snowed that night and we ran out into the quiet Austrian countryside road and danced and wrote our names in the fresh powder?
Hey, remember how we would ice-skate in Mozartplatz? Eat at the Triangle on Wednesday’s? Get gelato at Café Habekuk? Remember how we’d sit in our dorm in St. Sebastian and watch countless episodes of The Office or comedy by Eddie Izzard or Wes Anderson movies or random hilarious youtube clips and eat tons of food and just laugh and laugh and laugh?
Hey, remember doing our laundry in the sink and hanging it all over the room, walking across the beautiful city for 8 a.m art classes, buying wurst at the market by Universitat kirche, the hot waiter at the café by our dorm where they had the delicious kurbiscremesuppe, the fast pace of the Spar, and lazy afternoons by the Salzach river?

Well, you may not remember…but I am lucky to have six best friends who do. The part of my heart that I gave to Salzburg, I also gave to the best friends that I made there. Salzburg is alive in them—we keep it alive with memories and we keep it alive by treasuring and maintaining our friendship. I am so blessed because I am going to get to see four of those best friends this week for a mini-reunion in California!
